This strategy can help you pause campaigns or change their budget/bid, if their total sum of spend reaches a certain threshold. It is particularly useful if you want to maintain budgetary control over a certain group of campaigns.

You can use this method for Meta, TikTok and Snapchat ad campaigns, for Google Ads, this setup can be employed within a cpecified campaign type (one rule = once Google campaign type).

Step 1. Set up your Google Sheet

Create a Google Sheet and list the campaigns you want to monitor. Populate the sheet with the spend values for these campaigns. This data can be entered manually or automatically through various data import methods.

Step 2. Calculate Total Spend

Use a formula to sum the spend values of the listed campaigns. For example, if your spend values are in column B from row 2 to row 11, your formula in cell B12 would be =SUM(B2:B11). This cell (B11 in this case) will display the total spend for the selected campaigns:



Step 3. Create a custom metric

Create a custom metric that pulls data from your Google Sheet. Check out this article to learn more about our Google Sheets integration.

Use the Single Value option to reference the cell where the total spend is calculated (B12):

Step 4. Create the rule

With the custom metric in place, set up a rule to pause/change budget of the campaigns if the sum of their spend reaches a certain threshold.

For example, if the total spend exceeds $5,000, the rule should automatically pause the related campaigns.


Given that the spend values are updated timely before the rule checks, you will have real-time monitoring and control over your campaign spends, allowing you to optimize your budget effectively.
