You may see the following message when trying to publish a campaign:
Missing or invalid fields in the promoted objects: For optimization goal LEAD_GENERATION, page_id needs to be valid. Please set it in promoted objects.
This error is returned directly by the Meta API.
Why it happens
This typically happens when there's a mismatch between the conversion location and the optimization goal on the ad set:
The conversion location is set to Website.
But the optimization goal is set to something that optimizes for leads (which expects a Facebook Page to be attached via
page_idin the promoted objects, since lead generation is tied to a Page – not applicable when the conversion location is a website).
Because a website conversion location doesn't have a Page to attach, Meta rejects the request when the optimization goal still expects one.
How to fix it
Go to the ad set tab.
Change the optimization goal to one that fits a website conversion location – for example, Maximize number of conversions.
Try publishing again. The error should no longer appear.
