My sheet is active but I see this error in the logs “Google Sheet file was deleted or access to it was lost”

This error means there is something off with the access to the Google Sheet used in the custom metric within the rule.

1) Please open the Google Sheet used for your custom metric within the rule, and open its sharing settings.

Until now, connecting a spreadsheet meant setting it to “Anyone with the link”, which wasn’t ideal for privacy or control.

You can now simply add our service email as a viewer to the specific spreadsheet you want to use - no public sharing needed. This helps keep your data more secure and gives you full control over who can access your Sheets.

If you’re already using Google Sheets with Bïrch, we recommend updating your access settings:

  1. Open the Google Sheet you’ve connected

  2. Click Share

  3. Set permission to Viewer

2) Go to Automate -> Custom metrics. Open the custom metric used in the rule -> Google Sheets:

Click the gear button as on the screenshot below, copy and paste the link from the Google Sheet, click Add -> Save changes

3) Once you have reconnected the Google Sheet to the custom metric used in the rule, wait for the next check of the rule. Given that the access issues have been fixed, the error should disappear from the logs during the next сheck.

If the issue persists after completing all the steps above, please reach out to us at support@bir.ch
