"Ad Creative Is Incomplete" Error

You may see one of the following messages when trying to publish or edit an ad, depending on whether the ad creative is a regular post or a Reel:

  • Ad Creative Is Incomplete: The post cannot be loaded. It might be deleted, or you are lacking permissions to see it. The post you selected for your ad is not available. It could be deleted, or you might not have permissions to see it. Please check your ad creative and try again.

  • Ad Creative Is Incomplete: The reel you selected for your ad is not available. It could be deleted or you might not have permissions to see it. Please check your ad creative and try again.

Both versions are returned directly by the Meta API. This usually comes down to one of two causes:

  • The post or Reel no longer exists. It may have been deleted or unpublished on Facebook.

  • A permissions issue. The account trying to use the post or Reel as an ad creative may not have admin access to the Facebook Page where it was published.

How to check

  1. Confirm the post or Reel still exists on Meta. Go to the Facebook Page directly and look for the post or Reel. If it's missing, it has likely been deleted and can no longer be used as an ad creative.

  2. Confirm you have admin permissions on the Page. Check that your account has admin (or at least advertiser) access to the Facebook Page where the post or Reel is published. Without the right permissions, Facebook won't allow it to be loaded as an ad creative.

  3. Try replicating the issue directly in Facebook Ads Manager. Attempt to create an ad using the same creative directly through Facebook. If the same error appears there, this confirms the issue originates from Facebook/Meta and not from Bïrch.

If the issue persists

If you've confirmed the post exists, permissions are correct, and the error still occurs – including when creating the ad directly in Facebook Ads Manager – please reach out to our support team with:

  • The link to the rule/template

  • The post or Reel ID or link (if available)

  • A screenshot of the error from both Bïrch and Facebook Ads Manager
